A band leader waves his arms...
How does one lead the band?
Terry Dashner (www.ffcba.com)
Have you ever wondered why every marching band has a band
leader? Well, somebody has got to wave his arms. When I think of
leadership, I think about those who wave their arms. They are
the ones who stand up, stand out, and wave others forward.
Leadership is forward movement by one, causing a chain reaction
among others. If the leadership is true and inspiring, there is
forward progress.
May I share a few things that I've learned through the years
regarding "waving arms" in front of other people? As a leader
you can do one of two things. You can drive by force or lead by
example. May I suggest that you lead by example? There are four
points I wish to share with you.
For one you must be radical. Not repulsive, but radical. Not
reactionary, but radical. If God has called you into ministry,
He wants you to be radical. What do I mean by this? Make God
your confidence, and trust Him radically. Learn that God alone
is your source, and live that way. Display a demeanor before
people that says, "God is in control."
Remember this. If God has called you, He's giving you a green
light to keep you moving forward. If you are called into
ministry and you're still waiting for a green light to move
forward, may I ask you why? If you are in God's will, you're not
suppose to be looking for red lights. The light is green--go.
If you get off course in your zeal, God will tap you on the
shoulder and correct your movement as long as you keep rolling.
Obviously it's easier to change a boulder's course while it's in
motion, working with its own momentum than it does to try and
change its path by working against its forward movement. If you
are a leader you are to roll along, and let God direct your
course. By starting and stopping you lose your momentum. Keep
rolling.
More on this later...
Keep the faith. Stay the course. Jesus is coming soon on the
back of a white horse, leading the hosts of heaven forward.
