Positive Correlation
When one number increases at the same time a related number
increases, we call it positive correlation. There is a positive
correlation between the amount of time your registrants have to
sign up, and the amount of registrations you will capture. Give
yourself plenty of time to register people and round up
additional registrants.
The more time you have to register people before an event, the
more registrants you'll have. We see so many events where
registration starts a couple weeks before the event. By
increasing the registration period, people perceive the event as
being bigger, more important, and have a sense that it's even
more worthwhile for them.
Another Benefit to Planning Ahead
This also enables you to have tiered pricing, such as early bird
specials that motivate people to sign up even earlier. As I've
discussed in previous articles, offering discounts and
early-bird specials can significantly increase registrations for
your event. Some online registration systems will automatically
turn different pricing tiers on and off based on dates that you
set.
Remember: Give your customers plenty of time to register
and they will thank you with greater attendance and earlier
confirmations.
