Small Town Means Big Business
It has always seemed that rural communities across the world
have taken a back seat to technological advancements and have
experienced an evident delay in the everyday use of common "big
city" technology. However, since the advent of the internet,
small town businesses have been able to utilize the
globalization of the web to position themselves on a level
playing field as their connected "big-city" counterparts.
The one industry that has pushed the envelope more than any
other in this advancement is web hosting.
For example ten years ago, Spokane Web Hosting, was
a far off thought. People in this small/middle sized city had a
hard time staying connected in a business environment to the
rest of the world.
Today, Spokane is a thriving city with their very own web
hosting companies!
Because of the internet and the way small businesses in rural
communities across the world have used it, business is no longer
a "big city" business.
In Spokane, the city I am from, there are plenty of small
businesses which cater to a global environment because they have
come to understand the power of the web. Literally anyone with a
good business idea can develop a successful business regardless
of where they live as long as they have access to the internet.
Each day more and more people ask me how they can start their
own business. My response is always the same. Create a business
plan that utilizes the internet as the primary medium for
commerce and go for it!
This is exactly how I was able to start my first business, a Spokane Web Hosting,
company.
Being in a rural area doesn't have to limit one's ability to
start and operate a successful technology driven business. By
using the power of the internet, anyone can put their ideas,
products, or services at the fingertips of the world.
