Optimize your page titles
The document title on each web page is the text that is between
the ... tags in your page's HTML code. This
text is what shows up at the top of your browser's window and
tells the reader a brief description about the page. Today we
will show you how to make the most of this important tag.
The biggest mistake most site creators make is to not change the
title text on each and every page of the site. If the site is
driven by a database of product information, then the page title
should contain the product's model number. Key things to
consider when designing your page title:
Keyword Quantity
Try to use keywords in the title that readers are likely to
search on to find this particular product page
Keyword Density
If possible, use multiple keywords that readers are likely to
search on to find this particular page
Keyword Position
Put the most popular keywords closer to the beginning of the
page title
Number of characters
Keep the number of words used and number of characters down, do
not use more than 200 characters in your title
When designing your page titles, be sure and check out the
leading sites on the search engines that you are trying to
optimize for and look at their page titles. Make sure you do
your best to one-up the competition on your page titles.
