Do You have the Courage to Confront Your Fears and Grow?
Ask yourself a question; Am I brave and courageous enough to
fight battles? No, we are not talking about battles in the land
of Iraq or Israel. But the battles on your own turf or rather
inside your turf. The battle of fighting your fears and
insecurities. If the answer is affirmative, congratulations! You
have won for yourself a ticket to the Hall of Success and
Satisfaction. And if you are in doubt, read this through, you
might be ready with an answer.
Each one of us have faced moments in life, when things seemed
beyond our reach or we felt diffident about them. But we have
two options here, either give in to your diffidence or give a
chance to your confidence. And the good confidence asks very
little from you to visit you. You just have to say "At least let
me give it a shot." When this is said, half the battle is
already is won, because you have put faith in yourself. We
attribute miracles to certain saints and God because we have
faith in them. When we put similar faith in our abilities and
cross the barrier of fear and uncertainty, miracles begin to
happen in our professional and personal lives. When ten people
work towards the same target, it is obvious that only one will
win, but what makes the other nine winners in their own right is
that they believed in themselves, to be able to reach the target.
People, at times, surely think that all this talk and writing on
attitude, self-belief, etc, comes because some people are good
at writing it. But this writing is not a figment of imagination.
It's being written because it has actually happened with people
and they have witnessed the change in their lives when they
adopted the attacker's policy towards their fears instead of
defense. What do we fear? Fear of failure, fear of rejection or
fear of being spoofed at? There are three outcomes for any
action, the two ends being success and failure and in between
lies the vast space of satisfaction. But if our fears overpower
us so much that we turn our back to the task itself,
satisfaction and success are always going to be the neighbor's
pride. Just once, for the sake of psychological experiment,
challenge your fear and let out the butterflies from your
stomach. Take this as a guaranteed outcome, you will feel
wonderfully light and content. Contentment gives confidence. And
this confidence will make fear disappear like smoke in air.
The worst thing you can do to yourself is underestimate your
potential. It's contradictory enough that where man is
increasingly turning self-centered, he still undermines his
self-worth. Of course braggadocios do not succeed either. But
why should we preconceive the outcomes? It is only fair and just
that you give yourself a chance. Thousands of us suffer from the
fear of public speaking. We fear that we might fumble on stage.
But isn't it only natural to halt in between to recollect our
thoughts. So why worry so much? At times we keep quiet during a
public discussion, fearing that others may not agree to our
opinion and find it incongruous. But it actually means that you
have a completely new and different viewpoint on the subject
that others hadn't thought of. So should you voice your
distinctiveness or let your fear shadow it? This is just one of
the fears we come across, but all other fears are equally
baseless and self-created.
"To be or not to be", is all in the mind. The great poets and
writers like Robert Frost, John Keats, Alfred Tennyson, were
normal people like you and me. And the publishers were under no
obligation to showcase their works. Who knows, even they must
have faced the fear of rejection or the cynicism of self-doubt.
But it is apparent that they confronted those fears and defeated
them to become legends of literature. There are innumerable
aspiring and talented writers and poets around, but if you are
plagued by your own insecurity and diffidence, the world will
lose out on some future Shakespeare and Wordsworth. And it is
not limited to literature alone. You could be the next Bon Jovi,
or the future Lincoln to lead your generation or Swami
Vivekanand, whose words and speeches influenced thousands.
It would be a crime of untold magnitude if you are going to let
your fear dwarf your growth and cloud your starry future. How
will you forgive yourself for this crime? Your destiny is in
your hands so don't let your fear handicap you. The talk on
motivation is not fictitious; it comes from real people's real
experiences and attitude. So put faith in it and in yourself and
stars will begin to fall on earth. Remember, "Until you believe
in yourself, no one else will."
