You know when you are driving your car and all of a sudden you have to let off the gas and even hit your brake sometimes? Well, you just wasted energy, kinetic energy and we should never waste energy especially for fuel economy reasons. As let us face it with Hurricane Season coming and seventy dollar per barrel oil prices on the horizon we need better fuel economy and well, we need it like now.
On many hybrid cars the cars actually charge the battery when braking and deceleration using a friction device. If you are going to slow the car down and steal the kinetic energy, well then obviously you want that energy back, as it took a lot to get the car to that speed in the first place you see?
Perhaps a dump valve right before the carburetor could also shut and bypass back to the fuel tank, while the kinetic energy from the motion of the vehicle is collected via braking device and friction based electric generators? Indeed there are some companies working on this now and these system do indeed save the consumer money on fuel and economy without many of them even knowing it. But if we can take it one step further we maybe able to get the city MPG numbers into the high thirties on average for all cars within the next 5-6 years. This can and should be done and I sincerely hope you consider all this in 2006.
