Common indicators include sudden changes or repeat changes in pages you are viewing or your homepage. Tool bars appearing, and increased pop up ads. Icons appearing and masses of error messages. Typically your computer will run very slow, and take ages to change pages, and when it does it is not what you requested. The list can go on.

You should always be careful when downloading from websites. Make sure you can trust the site, and if you do download anything you know exactly what it is. It is quite easy to get roped into downloading free games and videos, but normally when it is too good to be true, you can expect to be downloading a whole lot more than you bargained for. You should also always have your pop up blocker on, as some sites pop ups instantly infect your computer with unwanted programs. A firewall should always be switched on, and invest in a good virus program that helps block spyware.
