Glyconutrients are composed of eight simple sugars:
1) Mannose
2) Glucose
3) Galactose
4) Xylose
5) Fucose (not fructose)
6) N-acetyglucosamine
7) N-acetylgalctosamine
8) N-acetylineuramnic acid
The eight sugars are referred to as the building blocks needed to produce 'glyco proteins' in our body. Cell to cell communication is the number one touted benefit of these glyco proteins.
But when you break down each sugar separately is there really a benefit here? When I think of sugar, I think of 'table sugar' which we typically refer to as sucrose or frucose. So how can sugar help our bodies?
To further complicate matters, if these sugars are available in simple plants and fruits - why do we need to take a glyconutrient supplement?
