There will always be needs to rapidly launch blimps or dirigibles and get them to higher altitudes faster. Consider for a moment that a large battalion of US Troops needs some rapid eyes in the sky for surveillance, protection and communication. They may need to launch these quickly but how? Well one could suppose they could use some type of propulsion assist. But I believe there is an easier way. How so you ask?
Well why not put a reflector coating underneath the blimp, which is ultra-thin but reflects a lasers? It would then be possible to fire upon the Blimps reflective coating and thus increase heat and thicken the air underneath. Since the blimp is filled with lighter air it would rapidly ascend at a record speed. But where does the laser power come from?
Well that is easy as the United States Military researchers are rapidly advancing laser technologies and soon there will be small laser weapons which will be mounted on Humvees, so simply launch the blimp and then fire the weapon at the bottom of it in short bursts, not enough to destroy it, just little pulses to heat it up and cause the blimp to accelerate rapidly in altitude. We should be able to save a few minutes in time and then the soldiers can be in full communication and have situational awareness almost immediately. Consider all this in 2006.
