If you are a young man and you wish to learn to fly then hanging around the airport is a good way to learn about aircraft. Trading people to wash their aircraft for airplane rides is also a way to go flying. Eventually you will learn that there are many people who need their aircraft washed and you can trade for flight time.
Perhaps you can trade for a flight-instructor also. A flight instructor may also be building flight hours and may be able to make a deal with an owner of his own plane and if you wash that you may find yourself trading for an instructor and a flight lesson. You see this is how I learned to fly when I was 12-years old hanging around the airport and indeed back then it was rather tough, because I was a small boy and not a lot of folks wanted me hanging around their aircraft. But if you are older and polite and love flying and aircraft people will notice and you will soon find yourself above it all flying around the area and eventually get enough flight hours to get your license.
Then maybe your flight instructors rating. That is when it comes full circle and you will see someone out at the airport who wants to learn to fly and is starting out washing aircraft. In fact many top fighter pilots, test pilots and astronauts started this way. Consider all this in 2006.
