Gun Safety Article
Someone has written that he always thought that it is a far
better strategy to gun-proof your child rather than to
child-proof your gun. In actuality, the smartest thing is to do
both. It is vitally important to teach your child proper gun
handling techniques, but it is that much more important to
remove the object of temptation from the child.
Statistically, sometime in the next 2 days, somewhere in the
U.S. a child under age 19 will die as a direct result of the
mishandling of a loaded firearm. That is both tragic and
unnecessary. A mom and dad, brother or sister, grandma and
grandpa will be burying their son, their brother or sister, or
their grandchild. You have to ask yourself---WHY?
If you are hiding a loaded firearm at this very time somewhere
in your house, you are begging for a potential tragedy!
RIGHT NOW---THIS VERY INSTANT---ORDER A GUN LOCK, MINIVAULT or
SAFE! Merely hiding your firearm is both unsafe and offers
nothing but a false sense of security.
RIGHT NOW---THIS VERY INSTANT---UNLOAD YOUR FIREARM AND STORE
THE AMMUNITION SEPARATELY!
Many Americans own a gun for the sole purpose of home defense.
However, statistically again, most firearm accidental shootings
involve people who know each other! This is not said to
discourage you from owning a gun for this purpose. However, if
you do, then you should become proficient in its use. Take the
prudent and necessary steps to prepare yourself for the
possibility that you might have to use it someday.
First: secure it with one or more of the following products
which have been developed by and advocated by firearm experts:
KEYED CABLE LOCKS KEYED TRIGGER LOCKS KEYED GUN RACK OR SAFE
COMBINATION SINGLE/DOUBLE PISTOL MINIVAULTS
Second: practice accessing your unloaded firearm. Just as your
family has an evacuation plan (or should!) in case of a fire,
you should have a well-practiced plan of accessing your firearm
as carefully, quickly, and efficiently as possible. You should
practice accessing your unloaded firearm from various locations,
and under a variety of conditions and circumstances. From the
basement From the upstairs From the garage From the bath/shower
>From the laundry/utility room During the day During the night
(especially!)
Firearm proficiency is an art and a skill. It requires practice
just like every other art and skill. Practice your
loading/unloading skills. Practice cleaning your firearm.
Practice shooting your firearm. Seek expert instruction. You
will become proficient and confident.
Order your gun lock, trigger lock, mini vault, cabinet, or safe
today! It could save a life!
