Want to be a better parent?

Unlike popular credence people do not gain parenting skills immediately after their children are born. Most parents are usually clueless when it comes to raising their children at any stage. But, all parents have one thing in common. We want the best for our children and luckily there are many resources that can guide us to the right direction. Read non-fictional books. Most parenting related books are for specific developmental stages for example babies, toddlers, school age, and teenagers. They will tell you what to expect at a certain age, and how to handle some of the issues. Ask experts for advice. Luckily for us experts are everywhere they can be doctors, day care providers, teachers, counselors etc. Another way to contact them is by writing to their question and answer columns online, newspaper, magazines, radio stations etc. Ask parents with more experience. They may not have all the answers but, they can offer helpful advice that was acquired through time and practice. If you believe that you do not handle your frustrations effectively then it would be good to take anger or stress management classes. This way you can learn how to be more patient with your kids and reduce the chances of becoming abusive. If you would like to enhance your parenting skills go to the Center for Improving Child Caring http://www.ciccparenting.org/cicc_fpcs_13.asp they offer free classes in most states, free childcare is available while you are in class. ------------------- You may reprint this article as long as no changes are made without permission and hyperlink is maintained active.
