Blood in semen may be due to infection
Question : WHAT would you recommend for hematospermia? I have
not consulted any doctor but would like to seek a holistic
approach.
Answer : HEMATOSPERMIA refers to blood in the semen.
Hematospermia is not uncommon and may affect men of any age
after puberty, but its peak incidence is in men 30 to 40 years
old. About 85 to 90 per cent of all patients who have
hematospermia will have repeat episodes. In about 50 per cent of
patients, the cause of hematospermia is not clearly understood
or known. Most of the semen comes from the seminal vesicles and
prostate and it is probably from these two organs that most
hematospermia originates.
Infections or inflammation of these organs account for most of
the other causes. The most common symptoms are pain during
urination, ejaculation, bowel movement, inflammation and
swelling in scrotum, lower back pain, fever or chills and blood
in urine.
You should see a doctor to determine the cause.
The herb saw palmetto and pumpkin seed are the most well-known
herbs used primarily to relieve symptoms associ- ated with the
prostate. Not only does it strengthen the reproductive system by
regulating the sex hormones, saw palmetto also improves a
person's vitality and sex drive. By decreasing the levels of DHT
in the prostate, further enlargement of the prostate can be
prevented.
Zinc deficiency has also been linked to prostate inflammation
and enlargement, therefore supplements of zinc may help prevent
and alleviate an enlarged prostate. Zinc-rich foods include
whole grains, red meat, shellfish, nuts and seeds especially
walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds, shrimps and soy beans.
