How To Make Mug Rugs

It's easy to give your home a country accent with mug rugs. These little 9-patch coasters are just the thing next time neighbors drop by for coffee. Two inch squares of light and dark fabrics are all you need for the top. Three squares across and three rows down. Sew the rows together alternating colours. Cut a piece of batting and a co-ordinating backing the same size as the top. Layer with batting on bottom, backing right side up and top wrong side up. Stitch around entire outside edge leaving an opening to turn. Turn right side out and gently poke out your corners. Then stitch opening closed. A nice gift for someone when it co-ordinates with their kitchen.
