SMS gateways are websites, which allow the sending of SMS text messages to cell phone users, using the internet. Most of the major American cell phone providers, including Cingular, Verizon, and AllTel have special websites set up where subscribers can send messages over the internet to any other mobile phone user in North America. Web-based SMS gateways are also made avialable to customers in Canada through companies like Telus and Rogers.
