New York Broadway Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Review
Based on the hit 1998 movie, the musical production opened on
Broadway March 3, 2005 with great success and acclaim. The story
focuses on two con men in the French Riviera, Lawrence Jameson
(played by John Lithgow)who scams women out of money and Freddy
Benson (played by Norbert Leo Butz), who uses a more subtle and
sympathetic approach.
The two con artist realize that the French Rivera is home of
many rich and gullible women, thus making the area a great spot
for making money with their approaches, however they both soon
realize there is not room for the both of them. The men decide
to make a wager inwhich whoever wins will have the lucrative
area all to their self.
The production has become a staple on Broadway and made a nice
home for itself in the theater district. Selling out shows,
keeping audiences laughing time and time again, as well as
receiving nice reviews from critics. Music and lyrics by David
Yazbek and under the direction of Jack O'Brien, Dirty Rotten
Scoundrels has become a "must see" show if you are going into
the city for a fun night of musical comedy laughs, this show
will not disapoint.
