A Wedding To Remember
September was approaching fast and it was my job as the
matron-of-honor to put together a great bridal shower for my
best friend. My husband and I decided to do a couple's shower
for our friends and theme it after the Survivor television show.
The bridal shower took on a whole new meaning when we were
finished with it. The decorations for the couple's bridal shower
were hung with multi-cultured themes. We had flags from all over
the world, and hats and walking sticks from Down-under, since
they both were avid travelers and outdoorsmen.
The food was also patterned after the world theme and we made
sure to include dishes from various countries. We mostly chose
"finger-foods", and that helped to get everyone in the spirit of
the games. Many dishes from India and the Middle East
incorporate using your fingers anyway so that was a big hit.
Sauces and dips also seem to be a popular choice especially in a
"care-free" setting. Add some nice garlic pita chips,
shish-ka-bobs, and some exotic fruity drinks and you have a
winning couple's bridal shower.
Outside we placed tiki lamps for that tribal effect and hung
various masks and artifacts from places we had visited as well.
If you haven't traveled much yourself there are various items at
home decorating stores, gardening centers, and nature or earth
themed retail stores for an affordable price.
The shower games we chose you can imagine. We had a variety of
dares and factual games that centered on relationship building.
We even threw in truth or fantasy questions about the young
couple for others to get to know them better. The shower games
were a success with this fun group and even seemed to break the
ice.
After the shower games the ladies got together and decided on
where to meet the following morning for a day out at bridal
shops. They put in their advice to the bride where to find the
best bridal shop, and what it had to offer that the others
didn't. You can picture the scene. Several excited women talking
faster than the men's heads could spin and all convincing about
their experience.
The preview gowns, wedding party
dresses, accessories, special event wear, all the way down
to the flower girl dresses can be found out there at discount
bridal shops. Some of them you can even walk in and ask for a
pair of free bridal gloves! Now that could be a real savings in
your budget.
Over all, the bridal shower, shower games, and bridal shopping
went off without any major hitches and left a lasting memory for
years to come. So the next time you plan a bridal shower try to
add a theme and spice up the traditional party into affair to
remember.
