Lose Weight gained during the Holidays
Lose Weight gained during the Holiday Season
During the holiday season millions of people gain weight. The
reason for gaining weight during this period might be:
1. We overeat and we eat unhealthy food.
2. If we are on an exercise program, we skip exercising, because
we might be holiday shopping or have family or friends visiting.
3. The winter season might make us stay indoors more often and
reduce our physical activities.
4. The slowdown in exercise and other physical activities slows
down our metabolism and make us consume fewer calories.
How can we lose the pounds gained during the holiday season?
Basically, we can do two things, reduce the calorie
intake and increase calorie consumption. We can
reduce the calorie intake by following these simple basic
guidelines:
a. Eat more fresh fruits. Use fruits that are high on potassium,
like bananas and orange juice.
b. Use fresh vegetables, like salads, baby carrots and tomatoes.
If you buy canned vegetables, choose items labeled "no salt
added". Replace the meat pizza with veggie pizza.
c. Eat more whole grains. Use whole wheat bread and whole grain
cereal. Eliminate white bread and replace white rice with brown
rice.
d. Choose lean beef cuts, lean ground beef and skinless chicken.
e. Stay away from added sugar or high salt products.
f. Replace processed foods with an increase in fruits and
vegetables usage.
When we increase our physical activity, we will also increase
calorie consumption. Regular exercise will also improve our
health. Exercise like walking, jogging, swimming or bike riding
at least 20 minutes a day, 3-5 times a week will not only reduce
our weight, but will make us feel better.
Make it a habit to eat sensibly and exercise. Choose an activity
that you will enjoy and you can easily do.
Don't find excuses not to enjoy the benefit of loosing weight, a
healthier body and feeling good.
