Get your resolutions into gear again
If you're one of the millions that refused to make new years
resolutions in January, but have managed to get as much
Christmas pudding tucked into your over expanding waistline,
then you should really consider bringing out the pen and paper
once again.Undoubtedly the most popular of all resolutions is "I
will lose weight" or "I will use my gym membership" or "I will
give up chocolates", but what's the point of saying all this if
you really don't believe it?
The problem with resolutions is that they all start off well,
but after a couple days and sometimes even hours our belief
system changes and our resolutions go down the tubes, which has
left most of us completely uninterested in even trying to make a
weight related resolution ever again.
As with anything in life - if you want something to work you
have to be determined enough to make it work. Contrary to what
you may have thought, the first place to make your fitness goals
succeed is not the gym, its right here at your desk, with
nothing but a piece of paper, a pencil and some "me time".
If you want to get a good start to your fitness program you have
to not only be willing to fight for it, but also willing to look
past your mirror image into your ideals and discover exactly
what it is that you would like to achieve. Once you've
established what you want out of your fitness program you can
continue with the next step to getting it.
Goal setting, as corny as it may sound is probably the best
motivational tool available, setting goals allows you to give
yourself a clear cut prospective into exactly what you want and
how you're going to get it. So, grab a pen and paper and take
our advice into setting goals (or resolutions).
Identifying the challenge
Identify what its that you want to achieve, make your goal
setting more effective by challenging yourself to achieve it in
a pre-determined amount of time. Don't be unrealistic about your
goals or the time it takes to get them. If you weigh something
like 100kilograms, don't expect to go down to a 52kilogram
weight and don't expect it to be done yesterday. Losing weight
takes time, so make sure you goals are realistic and try to be
level headed when you identify them.
Get it on paper If it ain't on paper, it means nothing. Grab a
pen and write down exactly what it is that you want to achieve.
Write down your goals and the time you're giving yourself to
achieve them.
By writing it down instead of simply just saying it, you're
giving yourself a clear instruction of what needs to be done.
Remember no business deal is taken seriously unless the
writing's on the wall, so why should you treat a deal with
yourself any different?
Post it Once you've written down your goals don't make the
common mistake of shoving it deep into your shoe cupboard only
for it to be discovered yeas later by your dogs.
No, you need to have it out there; in your face, screaming and
shouting at you in places and positions you would read and see
it all the time. Places like your desk, your PC, your fridge,
your diary, near the picture of your spouse or children, on your
keying etc. The more places you see it the more likely you will
remember it and stick to it.
If you have trouble reminding yourself what your goals are,
insert a pre-programmed note into your PC calendar or cell
phone, have it remind you every now and then what your goals are
and how long you have given yourself to achieve them.
Reward yourself If you've managed to stick it out, well done!
Now don't keep going until you've given yourself a well-earned
prize. Reward yourself every now and then with something to keep
you motivated and ready to kick more ass. Go out and get
yourself a new outfit, have your hair done or get a facial. If
your body is starting to look good, make sure you reward
yourself by taking care of the rest of you, remember, the better
you look the better you feel about yourself and the more likely
you are to succeed on your diet or fitness program.
Just do it If this article has sparked something inside to get
you going, don't ignore it. Print it out and take it to bed with
you, chances are you'll dream about what you want and wake up
tomorrow ready to kick some butt.
