Training a cat to hunt
How to train your cat to hunt with out eating the prey
Does you cat seem to be hunting all the time, pouncing on the
toys as they were going in for the kill, raking their claws over
your feet as if they are a piece of meat ?
Hunting is a natural behavior for your cat. Will they eat the
prey?
Kittens when they are born have the natural instincts to hunt.
However, cats do not to eat their prey. Eating the prey is a
taught behavior not one that is natural to a cat. Allowing a cat
to eat its prey is not a good idea as a cat can contract
diseases from other animals. This in turn can cause death to the
cat or large vet bills to have the cat become healthily again.
Kittens are born they learn by playing to adjust the speed,
coordination and learn the distant for the prey. Mothers of
kittens if allowed to will kill the prey and bring it home for
the kittens to eat, with eventually bring home partial killed
pray for the kitten to learn how to finish the prey and eat it.
This is a important factor when looking for a kitten to raise.
If you were not going to have the kitten eat its prey then you
would not want to get a kitten that has learned this behavior.
If the kitten will come to a home will the intentions are to
help hunt and kill prey then you will want to look over the
mother as well as the kitten to find out just what type of
behavior the mother has taught the kitten .
Families that have farms are usually the ones that are looking
for cats and kittens that are good hunters. This help keeps the
population of mice down in the barn, feed rooms, and areas that
attract many mice. Cats and kittens that are good hunters that
are allowed to eat their prey also need attention for balance
meals. You will want to feed them good healthy food with the
vitamins that they will be missing from the prey. Also depending
on the time of year, you will want to offer some good healthy
food, as the prey population depletes some.
If you have adopted a pet cat and you see that it is eating the
prey, you will be able to train the cat to not to eat the prey.
First, if you see the cat eating the prey, take it from them and
offer them food right away some type of meat for cats that will
give your cat the healthy balance diet that they need.
Second, tell the cat that you do not approve of the meal they
have chosen to eat. You will not want to punish the cat for
this, but to let them know you do not approve of this. Make sure
that you are leaving enough food for the cat to eat so that they
know they have something eat most the time
Do not allow your cat to eat off the table, or scraps that are
left over from meals. This not a healthy food diet for cats or
kittens to eat. A cat or kitten to needs good vitamins and
protein, to build healthy bones, mussels and brains cells. This
can also lead a cat to hunt and eat the prey. If allowed then
the training for the cat not to eat, the prey will be hard to
do.
